The launch of Steam Deck and Valve’s Proton compatibility layer is a watershed moment for Linux gaming. Not only does this portable gaming PC bring publishers and developers more attention to Linux gaming than ever before, it also gives gamers access to a variety of games that were previously unavailable. Today, the platform supports over 30,000 different games and counting.

According to data from SteamDB, a platform that tracks all official Valve data, there are 30,023 officially registered games on Steam marked as “reviewed” or “playable” on the Steam Deck or SteamOS. The number is slightly lower, with 29,988 reviewed or playable games, according to ProtonDB.
ProtonDB also tracks other interesting metrics, one of which is the percentage of playable and reviewed games that are currently trending on the Steam Deck.
According to these metrics, 40% of the top 10 Steam games by concurrent players are verified or playable, and this number rises to 46% of the top 100 games by player count. According to SteamDB official data, the distribution is as follows:
- Playable on Steam Deck – 21,078 games;
- Tested on Steam Deck – 8975 Games;
- Steam Deck not supported – 6846 games;
- SteamOS – 4494 Game not supported.
Operating system or anti-cheat compatibility are not the only factors that determine whether a game is compatible with the Steam Deck. Performance and UI scaling may also cause a game to be incompatible or unsupported on Steam Deck, but will not necessarily prevent the game from running on SteamOS or Linux.
