The emulation scene has taken a huge step forward with the current generation of consoles. A modified version of open source emulator KyTyPS5 is not only able to run the native version of Grand Theft Auto V on PlayStation 5, but is also able to deliver full gameplay at frame rates of 40 to 60 FPS. Back in the summer, the game only displayed the start menu, but new broadcast command optimizations make it possible to complete the North Yankton prologue directly in the game.
Like the PS4, the PlayStation 5 architecture is built on standard x86-64 instructions and AMD graphics cards (RDNA 2). KyTyPS5 does not emulate low-level hardware (LLE), but operates on the principle of a high-level compatibility layer: it intercepts system calls of the Prospero operating system (Orbis OS) and converts graphics instructions under the Vulkan 1.3 API.
In addition to GTA V, the fork developer is also reporting first-time success with the initialization and launch of other large commercial projects for PS5, including Astro Bot and the console-exclusive Silent Hill: SMS.
