Capcom announced the sales of the action role-playing game “Onimusha: Kendo”: sales exceeded 1 million copies on the first day. Against this background, the total circulation of the Japanese series, which premiered in 2001, reached 10 million copies.
It’s the first new game in the series in two decades (in recent years, fans have had to make do with remasters of the original Warlords and Samurai Fate). One of the reasons for the success of this story about Miyamoto Musashi and the ghosts of Edo-era Japan is Capcom’s excellent marketing, including multiple demos and showing off the game at exhibitions.
The company also noted that it’s committed not only to releasing major new products every year, but also to bringing old IP back into service that have sat idle for too long without proper attention. This approach works: “Onimusha: Way of the Sword” has a positive rating of 87% on Steam, with 85,000 people online after its first weekend.
