Neil Druckmann confirms Naughty Dog will not be saying goodbye to The Last of Us. The studio head said in an interview with The Washington Post that there are several projects in the universe in development, but he wasn’t ready to reveal details yet.
Meanwhile, Naughty Dog has completely given up on creating a third season of the HBO series. Druckmann noted that although he produced the first two seasons himself, he was not involved in forming its creative direction. According to him, even if the TV series adaptation ends here, the game series itself will continue to develop.
Exactly what the studio is working on now is unclear. This could be The Last of Us Part III, another project in the universe, or even a return to the idea of the canceled The Last of Us Online. You shouldn’t expect an imminent announcement, however: Naughty Dog’s main work is now focused on StarCraft: Heretic Prophet, which has yet to show any gameplay footage.
