British development studio Frontier Developments is strengthening the profile of its upcoming management flagship game ZooStar 2 and emphasizing its focus on active species conservation. In the latest trailer, the producers detailed one of the core features of the sequel: a rich reserve of games. Unlike its predecessor, the classic zoo area, this is about large-scale restoration and management of the entire ecosystem. The latest demonstration focuses on the lush rainforests of Sumatra, home to abundant flora and fauna, and is designed to provide simulation enthusiasts with an interesting test of technology maturity. Planet Zoo 2 will be released on October 13, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
The introduction of the Wildlife Sanctuary represents a fundamental expansion of the proven game formula. While traditional parks focus on fence construction and guest satisfaction, ZooStar 2 expands the challenge to include large swathes of land.
Players must balance the interactions of a complex ecosystem so that the released animal species can thrive in their natural environment. Sections in the Sumatran rainforest illustrate how climatic conditions and local vegetation must be delicately coordinated to meet the demanding needs of its inhabitants.
To effectively manage and study vast nature reserves, developers are giving managers new tools. With the help of special research vehicles, it is possible to quickly cross impassable terrain, monitor the development of flora and observe animals up close.
The protected area in Sumatra joins other previously announced biomes, including the Scottish Highlands and the African Rift Valley. In addition to large-scale reserves, the sequel also brings innovations in basic technology and gameplay. In this series, flying bird species appear for the first time in dynamic aviaries and integrated aquarium systems. Combined with a revised terrain editor and more fine-grained animal behavior models, Frontier aims to significantly raise the bar for park and conservation simulations around the world.
With a release on October 13, 2026, the studio hopes to prove that modern construction games can master the balance between effortless design freedom and deep ecological simulation.
