Developer Hello Games has released a big update to celebrate No Man’s Sky’s tenth anniversary. Called COSMOS, it added a number of new systems, expanded existing ones, improved graphics, and eliminated hundreds of bugs and issues. The following are the main changes in the game COSMOS update.
Space stations, bases and alliances

- Players can now become space station directors. To do this, you need to win the trust of the local authorities, after which you will be able to manage the station and change its appearance. Hundreds of decorative elements have been added to decorate the station.
- Players can join the Galactic Alliance to explore space together, expand the territory they control, and compete with other associations. Webmasters also have the opportunity to create their own alliances.
- The league’s ratings have emerged. They take into account the number of participants, activities and the size of the controlled territory.
- Now you can build your own orbital base anywhere in space. A special computer allows you to allocate a space to the player and build there a full-fledged residence or an entire space city.
space exploration
- Systems become more diverse and realistic. Points of interest now appear at fixed points that can be visited repeatedly. For example, abandoned cargo ships, asteroid fields, anomalous objects, and other objects.
- An interactive map of the star system has emerged, showing planets, other celestial bodies, interesting places and unknown signals.
- A dense belt of asteroids has appeared in space, containing rare minerals and unusual crystals. These places attracted resource extractors, traders and pirates. Ice fields have also been added, where you can mine valuable resources. These areas were populated by wandering miners, traders, and pirates.
- It is now possible to reach stars directly through starships and conduct long-distance flights within the system.
- A huge abandoned spaceship appears in the depths of space. In it, players will find dangerous mazes with narrow passages that they must explore during spacewalks. Technology, cargo and other valuable materials can be recovered from these ships. However, the structure gradually loses strength, so excessive disassembly may lead to the destruction of the ship. Players must select the most valuable finds and exit the ship in time, as structural damage can cause chain reactions and explosions.
- New points of interest with rare resources have emerged. Mined materials and found debris can be transported to remote space bases for processing.
- We’ve added Corvette-class ships with new tractor beams. It allows you to attract physical debris and minerals, process them and place them into the cargo hold. The frigate also adds an automatic cargo release system. It allows you to quickly unload all collected materials in just a few seconds.
- Now, all pilots, not just Corvette-class owners, can leave their craft and explore space. You can disembark directly during the flight.
- The spacewalk system has been significantly improved – the jetpack can now move fully in three dimensions, allowing free movement in all directions.
space bases and missions

- Remote space bases built by alien creatures have appeared in inhabited areas. Here you can process rare minerals, trade with warehouse managers and take on special tasks.
- Some remote space bases are infected by unknown biological swarms. Players must explore these dangerous structures and obtain rare samples from them. Special equipment is required to clean contaminated sites. The rewards may be valuable biological samples, but exploring these places comes with serious dangers.
Anniversary Adventures and Rewards

- There’s a new adventure in the game, “Our Road Continues,” designed to commemorate No Man’s Sky’s tenth anniversary. Its various stages tell the story of the game – from its release in 2016 to Update 7.0.
- Completing the adventure will reward you with a memento set, including a series of framed paintings depicting major game updates. Each stage also comes with commentary from the developers at Hello Games, voiced by Sean Murray.
- Rewards for this adventure include a Diplodocus companion, based on a creature from earlier No Man’s Sky content. The model has been completely redesigned with new textures and animations added. Players also get access to the classic Guardian interceptor starship, which has been restored based on material from the game’s early trailers. Another bonus is a gold version of the Rasamama S36 starship, which was created with reference to earlier versions of No Man’s Sky.
- As an additional anniversary item, you can get a Starship Cockpit Astronaut Decorative Statue, based on a long-forgotten in-game item.
graphics
- The developers completely redesigned the system for displaying the details of planetary landscapes. Improved planet geometry details, textures, and surface quality.
- Significantly improved lighting of particles and other transparent objects. They can now respond to dynamic light sources, such as multi-tool lights, to improve image quality and ambience.
- Improved planetary clouds visible from space: The developers improved the quality of textures, shape details, and lighting.
This isn’t the complete list of changes in No Man’s Sky’s big 7.0 update, which is now available for free on all platforms. You can read the full patch notes here on the developer website.
