What would happen if you took one of the darkest horror games of recent years and replaced cramped dungeons with the bright rooftops of a futuristic city? will succeed bunker edge is an unusual mod for Amnesia: The Bunker that turns survival horror into parkour horror.
The mod was created by TiMan as part of the Frictional Games modding contest with the theme “What is reality?” In the story, the protagonist Henry passes through a portal and finds himself from a ruined French bunker into a colorful world reminiscent of Mirror’s Edge. But the monsters from the original game don’t stay at home, either.
Bunker’s Edge’s main feature is its sophisticated free-running mechanics. Players can climb ledges, slide, run along walls, climb pipes, use special “runner vision” and jump through walls to perform amazing turns. All the while, the monster was chasing Anri on the rooftops, just as it had been chasing Anri in the underground corridors before. As a result, the usual horror becomes a strange mix of Mirror’s Edge and Fatal Chase – and it looks surprisingly convincing. Meanwhile, the mod doesn’t just repaint locations – the HPL engine, already accustomed to darkness, grime, and disturbing shadows, is now trying to cope with bright urban environments.
