As part of a panoramic view of the future of action role-playing games, developer Blizzard Entertainment showcased groundbreaking innovations for Diablo IV at BlizzCon. Coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the series, the 15th game season “Hell Legacy Season” will begin on September 15th. The update is released on the same day as the game’s official release on Nintendo Switch 2, as part of the Age of Hate Collection. Additionally, the studio announced that iconic Amazonian classes will be returning as paid character packs in the first half of 2027.
“Hell Legacy Season” brings the series’ story to the forefront. In addition to the return of NPC Deckard Cain, the three villains Diablo, Baal and Mephisto also appeared together in the end-game event for the first time. Over the course of the season, players must choose one of three infernal powers, which has a direct impact on the game world and available bonuses.
Technical and mechanical innovations include Nightmare Rifts, expanded recipes for Kanai’s Cube, and a rebirth system that brings existing characters into new seasons. War plans unlocked account-wide also simplify resource management between different characters.
On September 15th, “Diablo IV” will be released simultaneously on Nintendo Switch 2. The released Age of Hate Collection will be available in both physical and digital formats, bundling the base game and two previous expansion packs, Containers of Hate and Lords of Hate, onto a single storage medium.
Amazon Career Pack is scheduled to be released in the first half of 2027. In addition to bows and arrows, the heroine from the Scovos Island region also uses spears or darts as new weapons in battle. In terms of content, the upcoming seasons also build a narrative bridge with Diablo 5, announced for 2029, charting the gradual decline of Sanctuary until the victory of the Lord of Terror.
