Bungie Studios decided to abandon the seasonal update system and postponed the release of Marathon’s next content patch, which was originally scheduled to be released on September 22. In the meantime, the developers promise improvements, updates, and more information about the future of the game.
While the team continues to improve content, few players expect small patches to be released. The full update, called Symbiosis, is now scheduled for release on December 8th. Marathon will also abandon its strict seasonal update schedule, giving teams “more flexibility to create, test, and improve features before they are released,” in the words of the developer.
When the Symbiosis update is released, the game will introduce new characters, a permanent PvE mode, and updated peripheral areas. Additionally, thanks to additional development time, the patch will also include new social areas and shooting ranges, an experimental team deathmatch mode, and improvements to the novice training system.
On October 6th, Bungie will release a small update that will reset progression and the in-game economy – similar to what happens when a new season begins. Buhjrjd is also looking forward to updates to the rewards system and some gameplay improvements, which will “give the team the time they need to prepare for even greater innovation planned for December and March.”
Bungie promises to reveal more details about the future of Marathon and its plans, starting with a new development diary released later this month. Between October and December, you can look forward to gameplay experiments, as well as new information about Symbiosis updates and the future of the project.
We’ll tell you how to transform Marathon into a more dynamic survival simulator with a unique alien atmosphere.
