Several departments of industry giant IGN Entertainment have suffered a new round of layoffs. According to media reports, parent company Ziff Davis is parting ways with many employees, including famous video creators and podcast hosts Brian Altano and Seth Macy. Triggers were internal reorganization and changes in face-to-face working requirements.
As reports from the editorial team confirm, the layoffs include not only technical and editorial positions, but also impact long-standing and influential faces across the video and podcast network. Those affected include Brian Altano, who has been with the company since 2009 and is the lead host of the PlayStation format podcast Beyond, and senior business editor Seth Macy, who is the co-host of the Nintendo Voice Chat format.
Senior managers such as Bo Moore, senior manager of technology reporting, were also fired on the same day. The company’s management is currently keeping the exact total number of layoffs secret.
The current layoffs are part of a series of cost-cutting measures the online portal will take through 2026. Following the internal event IGN Live in early summer, several positions in the software development field were eliminated.
According to business sources, one of the driving factors for the latest wave of layoffs is the implementation of stricter site selection policies by parent company Ziff Davis. Employees working from home or on remote contracts have the option of moving to the main office location; if this is refused or is not operationally feasible, outright dismissal will follow in many cases.
The timing of these measures is particularly explosive: Bo Moore confirmed his firing on the same day that his team of experts released a comprehensive report on Valve’s Steam Frame hardware disclosures. This highlights the structural pressures on the remaining editorial board members to maintain daily reporting.
The reduction in key personnel reflects the continued consolidation path Ziff Davis has followed since the 2024 acquisition of the Gamer Network portfolio, which includes brands such as Eurogamer and GamesIndustry.biz. To capitalize on synergies and ensure profitability in the digital advertising business, editorial capabilities are being reduced. For the media sector, the loss of a market leader like IGN’s established voice marks a further break in the continuity of professional media professionals.
