Not on PlayStation 5, but on Radeon RX 480 - modder launches FSR 4 with decent performance on ancient graphics

Enthusiasts have proven once again that the word “exclusive” in the PC world almost always means “before anyone has spent enough time with it.” This time, FSR 4 is available for very old AMD graphics accelerators – the Radeon RX 400/500 and Vega 56/64 series.

Project name FSR4-GFX803 Lets you execute neural networks on Polaris and Vega architectures with the INT8 upscaler FSR 4. Indeed, all of this currently only runs on Linux, and the modifications themselves are still experimental. But there’s something else important here – the frame processing time of FSR 4 in this graph is only 5-8 ms.

In this chart, the first version of FSR 4 available to “everyone” required about 15 milliseconds of processing time, which, as you know, consumes a lot of final frames per second.

The solution uses a hybrid DLL library that combines standard shaders for the BC-250 mining board with ad hoc development. The author points out that the image is more stable and the anti-aliasing quality is higher than the old algorithm, so FSR 3.1 is officially open to everyone.
