Yandex has reportedly opened up general access to its Documents program, which is designed for working with text and spreadsheets on desktop computers – it works without an internet connection, but editing requires a paid Yandex 360 subscription News.

The Documents computer program is distributed as a component of the Yandex 360 Internet platform, but does not require an Internet connection. It is installed on all popular desktop operating systems: Apple macOS, Microsoft Windows and Linux – RPM and DEB format packages are available for the latter. The installation archive was downloaded for free from the Yandex 360 website without authorization. The program is also free to install, and you can view and print documents within it for free. “Editing, formatting and other functions for working with materials are included in the Yandex 360 tariff”,” specified on the website. At the same time, files edited in the program can currently only be saved locally on your computer.

File has all the basic functions for working with text and spreadsheets: settings for fonts and paragraphs, and the ability to perform calculations using arithmetic functions. Supported files are .docx and .xlsx formats, which are the main formats for the Word and Excel editors in the Microsoft Office software package; in the future, it will be possible to use .pptx files – which are the main format for Microsoft PowerPoint.
“The desktop version is now focused on individual work. Collaborative editing and artificial intelligence features are currently only available in the web version of the document.”– said in Yandex, adding that future versions of the program will support cloud storage “disks”, which will provide the possibility for multiple users to work on files simultaneously.
