Fatshark is preparing a major balance update for Warhammer 40,000: Undertide as well as a free Cursed Abyss update. The developers want to simplify the creation of builds, refresh categories, and understand the mechanics of Golden Toughness.
The main change is Golden Toughness – a temporary extra durability that now fully absorbs critical hits thanks to the overflow immunity effect. After the update, this defense will begin to function according to the same rules as regular Fortitude: players will retain the extra durability, but one point of it will no longer be able to fully negate the damage of critical attacks. Fatshark believes this will make the rules of combat clearer and leave more room for balancing defensive capabilities.
Rework will also affect talent trees. Ogryns, Zealots, Psykers, and Veterans will have fewer required stats and easier access to the talents they need, which should free up points for interesting decisions. Fanatics’ core mechanics will be further enhanced, while Veterans will get a simpler tree structure. Skitarius, who has adapted since the last update, will see some targeted changes to his talents and abilities.
Balance will also affect melee weapons, with the developers paying particular attention to Thunder Hammer. Hive Scum’s rampage will be slightly weakened due to melee combat being more effective than expected, while the Arbiter will receive the long-awaited improvements to the Ambassador Aquila. Due to the reorganization of talent trees, some builds will need to be tweaked slightly, but there won’t be a need to completely reset the character.
