The developers of Camelot Unchained have once again launched version 0.49 of the Early Access servers, which features improved NPC behavior, bug fixes, and lighting and visual adjustments.
Changes to NPC behavior are a key part of the 0.49 update, from bug fixes to adjusting targeting systems, routing, and making characters more responsive. These fixes address a wide range of bugs, some of which caused significant inconvenience to players.
For example, NPCs can now switch to other targets when being chased so that they aren’t just focused on the first player to attack or catch their attention. They are more likely to target close opponents, stop reacting to unseen objects, and are less likely to suddenly enter sleep mode and stand aimlessly. However, the pursuit may resume if the enemy comes into their sight again.
These updates also affect the location of the silver mines, and make changes to lighting and visual design. The team provided comparison screenshots showcasing the new lighting settings. Developers say this should address issues pointed out by players: lights being too bright at certain times during the day and too dark at night.
Dynamic weather settings have been adjusted to find balance and avoid extremes: “The world should neither blind the player nor leave him wandering in darkness.” In addition, according to the author, new lighting settings can better highlight the artist’s work. Other visual improvements include updating the water shader so that it no longer turns black when viewed from certain angles.
