Echoes of Alderamar, the second major expansion for Pioneers of Pagonia, is now available. Players are sent to an island on the southern edge of the Paganian Sea, where they must build, explore, and fight amidst the deserts and ruins of a long-gone civilization.
The main part of the DLC is a new story campaign consisting of four maps. Desert areas will present additional challenges in the form of sand and quicksand, and the restoration of large monumental structures will be a separate construction project. You can perform repairs in stages, which will change the surrounding area and even affect the behavior of enemies, gradually turning the desert into fertile land.
Ancient stone warriors patrolling between the obelisks add to the problem. You can’t contact them, distract them by activating an obelisk, or engage in combat – the choice is up to the player. In order to work outside your own territory, an expedition camp and a special builder will appear, while for large-scale reconstruction you will need new marble resources mined from improved quarries. All new mechanics are also available on custom maps, so the desert doesn’t end with the campaign.
