Nearly two decades after its release, the world-famous sandbox Minecraft continues to experience tremendous growth in its audience. The head of Microsoft’s game department pointed out on social networks that hundreds of thousands of new people join the community every day (the number is said to be 300,000), and the total circulation of the project has exceeded the 425 million sales mark.
This stunning success is due to the project’s incredible accessibility across a variety of platforms. The game will play on PCs running Windows, Mac and Linux, past and current generation consoles from Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, and mobile devices running iOS and Android. The vast ecosystem is also complemented by spin-offs, with the upcoming Minecraft Dungeons 2 standing out.
Media franchises have long transcended the interactive realm and continue to expand. In addition to regular major game updates (such as the recent Minecraft Live 2026 demo), the studio is also preparing to release a second feature film starring famous Hollywood actors.
