CES in the United States has historically been a consumer electronics show, which is determined by its name. Sony has historically had a special focus on this area since its founding, but in recent years its focus has shifted, so starting next year it will no longer be involved in this activity. Sony is no longer a fixture at other major electronics industry shows.

The agency discussed the topic on Monday BloombergThe statement stated that Sony or its affiliates will not participate in CES 2027 in Las Vegas next January. The history of CES can be traced back to 1967, and Sony regularly participated in the show in the following years. Nikkei first reported Sony’s intention to skip CES 2027, and Bloomberg further confirmed the news with a company representative. Even this year, Sony decided not to rent a separate booth, but to attend CES 2026 through a joint venture with Honda Motor. The joint venture was originally going to launch the production of Afeela electric vehicles, but as a result, the corresponding plan was abandoned and almost disbanded.
Sony traditionally occupies one of the largest booths at CES, attracting a lot of attention from visitors even as its Japanese rivals reduce their presence at the show. The company’s presentations were engaging, informative and comparable in organization to Apple’s events. Sony officials added that the company will continue to focus on digital entertainment technology, intellectual property rights and content creator solutions. In fact, Sony’s hardware business in recent years, in addition to game consoles and accessories, has been reduced to the production of digital camera image sensors, which are used in smartphones, tablets, security cameras and automotive systems. In recent years, Sony has neither participated in MWC in Barcelona nor IFA in Berlin, so it is only a matter of time before it gives up participating in CES.
