Naughty Dog has officially confirmed work on two new projects. Just in time for The Last of Us , the development studio has finally made it clear that the post-apocalyptic series will continue.
Of course, we’re celebrating The Last of Us again this year, the day when the in-game Cordyceps mushrooms sent the world into epidemics and abyss – and this year the day brings real good news for fans of the series. Naughty Dog has now officially confirmed for the first time that The Last of Us is still going on.
In a blog post, mastermind Neil Druckmann himself spoke out and announced that two new projects for the series are in the works behind the scenes. There had been speculation and rumors that Naughty Dog might return for The Last of Us, but nothing was ever confirmed – even though Druckmann himself at least suggested a return earlier this year.
Now two new games have been confirmed, which are said to be still “in the very early stages.” Druckmann promises that these will “expand The Last of Us canon beyond Parts One and Two.” At the same time, he suggested that characters other than Ellie and Joel could take center stage. However, they firmly believe these stories are “worth telling.”
Specifically, Druckmann said: “Since Grounded II, we have been discussing the possibility of telling more stories in the world of The Last of Us. We are developing some very exciting new projects that are still in their early stages, so we can’t reveal much at the moment.
At present, Naughty Dog’s focus is still on the new science fiction series “Star: Heretic Prophet”, and there will be no more related news this year. This title will be presented in detail in 2027.
