All three new products will be integrated with the updated Apple Siri AI smart assistant. A central element of the demonstration will be the smart home control center – a new product category for the company. The device will feature a 6-inch display and can be wall-mounted or mounted on a horizontal surface. The display will be about as thick as an iPhone, and the bezels around the screen will be as wide as older iPad models.
Judging from the description, the smart home control center will look similar to Apple’s iMac G4 computer – with a round metal base housing speakers and microphones, and a metal leg to support the screen and adjust the tilt of the monitor. Apple is also expected to launch a wall-mounted option with thinner speaker and microphone bases.
Qualified Apple HomePads will be powered via the USB Type-C connector, as the smart display will not have a built-in battery. The device will come in Apple’s standard silver aluminum finish. The software platform includes deep integration with Siri AI and iPad-style apps; specifically, the Messages API will be split into two panels. Smart displays will be able to control smart home devices, support video calls and music playback, and display photo slideshows; provide intercom (intercom) capabilities, and user recognition through face and voice.
