Details about the upcoming desktop line of Intel Core Ultra 4000 processors (codenamed Nova Lake-S) have leaked online. Judging from recent data, the “blue” camp is preparing for a large-scale rebranding, and the name index will return to four digits. The series will be headed by the Core Ultra 9 4970K chip with the mysterious BFC suffix.

The flagship will feature an impressive 28 cores – 8 efficient P-cores, 16 energy-efficient E-cores and an additional 4 ultra-energy-efficient LPE cores. However, the main interest lies in the architectural features of BFC, which hides the bLLC technology-increased Big Last-Level Cache. This is Intel’s direct response to AMD’s super-successful 3D V-Cache technology, which has long held the lead in gaming tests. The base cooling package for the processor will be the usual 125 W, with a simpler 24-core Core Ultra 9 4950K available without the BFC prefix for those who don’t need the extra cache buffer.
