Microsoft will expand support for Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics cards and the RTX Spark platform’s Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) technology. This technology is designed to reduce first load times in games and reduce image stuttering caused by shader compilation. ASD allows you to provide precompiled shaders with your game installation.

With the release of the ASD public preview, the technology only provides support for various generations of AMD’s RDNA graphics architecture. The technology currently supports AMD RDNA 1, RDNA 2, RDNA 3, RDNA 3.5 and RDNA 4 graphics architectures, as well as Adreno graphics integrated in Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 series processors. Later this month, Microsoft plans to extend ASD support to Intel Arc B570 and B580 series graphics cards, as well as integrated graphics on Intel Core Ultra Series 2 (Arrow Lake) and Core Ultra Series 3 (Panther Lake) processors. This update will be rolled out with all Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics cards and RTX Spark platform support, allowing systems equipped with GeForce RTX graphics cards to benefit from faster game load times.

Microsoft says that using ASD in Gears of War: E-Day can reduce shader compilation times by up to 95% because the game has pre-compiled shaders installed and only a small portion are compiled locally on the user’s device. The technology also significantly reduces the intensity of image stuttering, but this can only be experienced in practice. According to the TechPowerUp portal, independent testing of the ASD technology showed that not everything went smoothly in the case of the same game Gears of War: E-Day.
“The problem of waiting for shaders to compile has a solution. Microsoft is introducing Advanced Shader Delivery technology, which downloads shaders from the cloud that exactly match specific hardware configurations and driver versions, eliminating the need for the PC to compile them itself. E-Day is one of the first games to use this technology, but it won’t work for us. As far as Nvidia is concerned, this is still expected: AMD will release it once it’s released but with the appropriate drivers everything should work fine on the card (according to the reviewer’s guide).According to the portal report.
ASD technology on PC requires Windows 11 24H2 or later, and AMD Adrenalin 26.6.1 or later, or 2026.08.3 or later for Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 processor-based systems. Microsoft has yet to announce system requirements for Intel and Nvidia.
