Wolcen 2 game director Christian Tudor spoke to the community, showing off the first footage of the world and the lore of the upcoming sequel. He also talked about how the experience gained during the launch (and subsequent end of support) of Wolcen: Lords of Chaos affects ongoing development.
Wolcen 2 was announced at Gamescom. At the same time, the developers promised to take the community’s opinions into account and introduce the ability to create private multi-user sessions. The game will also have an offline mode.
We understand that some people will be skeptical of the game’s release due to the way support for the first Wolcen game ended.
In the film, Tudor explains that the independent studio was committed to the long-term development of the project, but faced technical limitations that made it impossible to achieve this goal without a complete overhaul of the technical framework. That’s why the sequel is built on Unreal Engine 5, providing a solid foundation and long-term support. Another studio project is also being developed on UE5 – Gods, Death & Reapers.
The events of Wolcen 2 take place approximately ten years after the end of the first film. The game director described this situation as “the world is in ruins.” The game begins under these circumstances: civilization is collapsing, cults are multiplying, and you find yourself at the center of these events. You must continue your adventure amidst this chaos, find the right weapons and develop your character the way you want. The author promises the same dynamic, brutal and exciting combat system, as well as the freedom to create unique hero looks.
The team is committed to actively involving the community in the development process and subsequent Early Access phase. According to Tudor, the plan is to exit Early Access and launch fully in 2027.
