At the opening ceremony of Gamescom 2026, Square Enix showed off a new game trailer for the jRPG “Final Fantasy VII Revelations”. The video showcases large-scale battles using weapons from the original Final Fantasy VII, new summonable Typhons, and ways to explore the open world.
These weapons will be some of the biggest enemies in the game. These massive creatures will awaken in a world on the verge of destruction, and will not distinguish between allies and enemies. The trailer shows combat with them in the desert, in the air, and underwater. Some battles will be particularly challenging and will challenge players later in the game, keeping in mind the weapons from the original Final Fantasy VII.
The film also shows off a new summon, Typhon. The developers showed off open-world exploration using parachutes, grappling hooks, and riding a chocobo. The primary means of transportation is the Highwind airship, from which you can jump anywhere on Earth to seamlessly continue exploring the area.
One of the important parts of traveling is the freedom of choice. As meteors approach planets and weapons wreak havoc, players will be able to decide where to go, who to help, and in what order to complete various missions. Decisions made throughout the story will be able to impact each character’s arc.
The combat system will retain a combination of real-time dynamic combat and tactical modes. Final Fantasy VII Revelations will expand upon it with new playable characters and abilities.
The game will also feature the new FITS system. It will add unique costumes that give the hero additional abilities and feats. In the trailer, Cloud and Tifa play warriors and black magicians respectively, referencing the classic professions in the Final Fantasy series.
Final Fantasy VII Revelations will be the third and final game in the remake series. The plot continues the story of Cloud and his companions, who must stop Sephiroth and prevent the meteor from falling. The team will travel to Earth aboard the Tornado and try to survive the coming disaster.
Players who own a FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE or FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH save on PC or console will receive additional rewards. Saving the first game will reward you with Chocobo and Moogle summoning materials, and saving the second game will reward you with Phoenix summoning materials.
Final Fantasy VII Revelations will be released in spring 2027 on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.
