4A Games showed off a new trailer for Metro 2039 at Gamescom Opening Night Live and confirmed a release window – the game will be released in February 2027. The latest video follows up on June’s gameplay demo, with particular emphasis on the details of the underground locations.
Events will pick up four years after Metro Exodus, with the action once again moving underground – to the stations and tunnels of the Moscow Metro. For the first time in the main series, the protagonist will not be Artyom, but a mysterious wanderer who returns to Moscow after many years in exile. Unlike previous protagonists, he will receive mature voice acting, which will allow him to reveal his inner experiences and visions in greater depth.
The political situation in the subway has also changed. The scattered stations are now unified under the rule of the New Empire, led by the legendary Spartan Hunter, who calls himself the Imperator. The new regime relies on propaganda, fear, and confrontation with surface dwellers.
Metro 2039 will be released on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox on PC), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. Gamescom attendees will be able to try out the game from August 27th to August 30th.
