PlayStation State of Play’s latest demo comes amid pressure from massive protests from players, who flooded broadcast chats with “don’t buy discs” chants and demanded an announcement Destiny 3. The incident is important for the industry because it reflects a deep crisis of trust between viewers and companies over controversial management decisions.
The main reasons for fan anger are the company’s plans to abandon physical disc releases entirely by January 2028, as well as defamatory statements from Sony lawyers that purchasing a digital copy does not mean actually owning the game. The situation is exacerbated by the discontinuation of support for Destiny 2, a hit with a steady daily audience, while a petition to create a third installment has already collected over 410,000 signatures. Although Sony continues to stand its ground after acquiring Bungie and refuses to greenlight expensive sequels due to budget risks, gamers have expressed public resistance.
