Recently released Soulslick action game Mortal Shell II has received positive reviews renew Systems with experimental adaptive complexity. She analyzes players’ successes and failures and then independently changes the opponent’s strength. This feature is optional and disabled by default. You can activate it at any time through settings.
The system works both ways. If the player wins regularly and completes the encounter without dying, the opponent will gain extra health, damage, and break resistance. Enhancements are not limited to standard game parameters. Long winning streaks can make enemies stronger than their original maximum, and their attributes will then continue to increase. If the player dies frequently, on the contrary, the opponent will be weakened by the same three indicators, and the maximum damage of an attack will be limited. Currently, the game does not communicate ongoing difficulty changes in any way, but the author plans to improve this system in the future.
These changes also affect the combat system. Continuous Infinite Seal Parry has been given a wider swing window, allowing you to parry multiple attacks in a row. Status effects are also allowed to be applied the moment an opponent rises after a retaliatory strike.
The developers have redesigned dark drops upon death to make it easier to return lost resources. Summoned Grisha no longer take damage from player projectiles, and they will stop along with other objects when using Death Miracle. Additionally, their attacks began to decrease. Fragile Talis now correctly drops Trovina when destroyed, and Darkstone no longer loses durability when it returns from its own corpse.
Some other changes are intended to prevent potential abuse. Leech Charge can no longer be stored and re-stacked together, while the rework of Jenessa’s Enhancement removes the ability to infinitely gain Resolve and summon loyal clones.
Sariel has received several ability fixes. Spiked Rain now works indoors, does not disappear when colliding with low ceilings, prioritizes capturing captured targets, and hits moving enemies. Affliction no longer requires a full Pain Gauge, and Disease now spreads damage across all cursed enemies and places the curse on those not already cursed.
The interface has also been updated. Hikaru now has a separate icon in the Breath of Mother fast travel menu, the pause menu option is more visible, and damage numbers now support values up to 9999 instead of the previous cap of 999. There are also many bug fixes.
