NEXON Games has brought to Tokyo Game Show 2026 a new game, FAREIDOLIA, from IO DIVISION RX studio, known for developing Blue Archive. The developers showed off a new animated trailer and demonstrated full gameplay, also allowing visitors to try the project for themselves. Among those who were able to play the upcoming new product were reporters from Japan Portal 4gamer.netwho shared the interesting details.
“FAREIDOLIA” takes place in Anima City, a parallel world similar to Earth. Players play the role of the person in charge of the city’s rehabilitation center and manage the Twilight Hall dormitory. He will work with the girls to solve the city’s problems, investigate anomalies and spend time at home.
Daily parts of the game include shopping, growing plants, cooking, and interacting with dorm residents. In the presented building it is possible to observe the figures on the two floors and visit the hall, offices, courtyard, dining room, kitchen and other rooms. Some rooms are temporarily closed. For communication, regular commands are provided as well as voice input. The player can say the name of a nearby girl and she will approach and talk.
The first demo’s plot was built around a box containing a sealed Shadow Serpent. The courier decides not to climb the stairs and drops the package onto the second floor, causing the seal to break and the Twilight Hall to be in danger. The story is in comedy style. Three girls find themselves at the center of events: the energetic and adventurous Minnie, the calm Ohana and the trouble-making Shami.
After the story scene ends, the heroes go to the “Infection Dungeon”. The research takes place in a three-dimensional location, with the player directly controlling one of the girls and being able to switch between characters at any time. The space gradually changes under the influence of the infection, so walls and passages change visibly during exploration.
The battle is based on the “real-time turn-based battle” system. The sequence of actions is displayed at the top of the screen, and the heroine can use one of two skills or a special attack during her turn. Normal skills have no cooldown time, and special attacks cannot be used for a few rounds after being used. The extra acceleration ratio allows you to move your character’s direction and quickly return it to the player’s control.
Battles take place in large arenas, where the position of the hero and the area of effect of his skills are very important. Opponents and uncontrollable characters are constantly on the move, so players must choose the moment for massive attacks, spread the heroine across the field, and dodge enemy attacks throughout the area. Time is limited to make a decision. Skills come with special animations and spectacular scenes.
FAREIDOLIA is built on Unreal Engine 5. The developers relied on animated illustration-style three-dimensional characters, along with free camera manipulation and expressive facial expressions. The full version of the game has yet to have a release date.
