Playground Games confirms that it took them 10 years to develop Fable - from the start of work to the launch: from the website NEWXBOXONE.RU

As all studios and publishers talk about, game development is more complex than it was 20-25 years ago. Some of them believed that new graphics standards were unnecessary and would only complicate the creation of games, whereas Alan Wake achieved sufficient realism. Playground Games confirmed in a new interview that the new Fable took 10 years to develop, from the time it signed a project deal with Xbox to launch.

during an interview The Guardian Studio co-founder and project game director Ralph Fulton talks about the making of the game, which will be released on February 23, 2027. According to him, the idea for a new Fable came about shortly after the closure of Lionhead Studios in 2016, which released the original project for the series. But a comprehensive development agreement between Playground Games and Xbox was signed in 2017. That’s when the studio almost had to build a team from scratch to develop a massive RPG. At the time, Playground Games wasn’t even part of Microsoft; the studio was only acquired in 2018. Therefore, it took 10 years from the signing of the development contract to the release.

According to Fulton, Playground Games heard the news and jumped at the chance to create a new Fable. However, he said that creating a new team was one of the most difficult tasks of the project, and the studio attracted experts from all over the world, many of whom came to Playground because of their love for the original “Fable” series.

In comparison, the first part of Fable took three to four years to develop, as series creator Peter Molyneux himself has spoken about. Fable II took two to three years to develop, and Fable III took about two years to produce.

Playground Games believes that Fable has not been canceled after such a long development cycle because it contains “Xbox DNA.”
