EXA Infrastructure Start laying The submarine cable connecting New Jersey (USA) and Breen (UK) has a total length of 6552 kilometers. The new EXA Meridian cable is a system of 24 fiber pairs with a total capacity of approximately 500 Tbps and is expected to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2029. The main contractor is Xtera.
This is the ninth transatlantic cable in EXA’s product portfolio. The company positions the project as the first transatlantic cable built by a single operator in the past decade. Meridian was developed for hyperscale enterprises, new cloud providers, financial and government institutions, and research organizations. Such customers increasingly purchase individual fiber pairs. EXA has previously announced “anchor” agreements with hyperscalers and new clouds, but customers and terms of engagement have not been disclosed.

EXA will integrate Meridian with the company’s existing network. Breen’s new landing station will be connected via multiple overland routes to Slough, Berkshire, and from there to the pan-European EXA network. This will provide connectivity to key European data center markets. This is very convenient for those buying dual fiber or multi-carrier.
