The free-to-play team fighting game “2XKO” based on “League of Legends” has not lived up to the hopes of American developer Riot Games and will soon lose active support, but the studio does not think the game is a mistake.

Let us remind you that the official version of 2XKO was released on January 20, 2026, and the upcoming December fix patch will be the last patch for the game. The project did not attract enough participants to ensure sustainable development.
Riot Games co-founder Marc Merrill at PAX West 2026 point outwhich does not consider a failed 2XKO an error: “We released a great game that took risks on the system [командных взаимодействий] There’s more”.
2XKO will remain available on all platforms and users will receive refunds on all purchases
Merrill emphasized that this is not easy for shareware projects and/or gaming services, especially given the variety and proliferation of content posted on social networks: “You’re competing for people’s attention, and that’s a very high bar.”.
“You need to do a lot of the right things to reach critical mass to create a long-term sustainable community. It’s a shame that 2XKO didn’t do that, but that doesn’t mean the game is bad.”Merrill Lynch is convinced.
Merrill said that the failure of 2XKO does not mean that Riot is not proud of the game and will not take any more risks: “If there’s one thing that sets Riot apart, it’s the eternal desire to serve and be better. We’re always working on that, and we’re developing a lot of cool stuff.”.
One of the coolest things in the works of Riot Games is an ambitious MMO set in the League of Legends universe, and in the five years since its official announcement, the game’s production has transformed into the studio’s pursuit of the Holy Grail.
